It was with great excitement and anticipation that we travelled from Orlando to Tampa to visit MacFarlane Park Elementary Magnet. From the moment that we entered the school we felt the internationalism of this school. We were welcomed with open arms by the team: Principal Denyse Riveiro, the Assistant Principal Hema Adhia and the PYP Coordinator Angela Hartle.
MacFarlane Park Elementary Magnet School is a k-5 public school in the Tampa area.
After an initial overview of their school we were taken on a full day journey through the hallways and classrooms of this amazing school. We were able to observe many of the classrooms in progress and see firsthand so many wonderful teaching practices. The staff is a strong one and the students a diverse group of internationally minded students. Everything about this building was overflowing with the PYP from the language the students used to the teachers guiding voices, the practices used, the classroom ambiance and the hallway bulletin boards.
We spent the lunch hour collaborating and exchanging ideas with the team. This was followed by a technology overview with Ms. Vinson, teacher of gifted children. We learned a great deal about how they use technology to enhance their program. Another highlight of our visit was spending time with their 5th grade students learning about their exhibition projects. These students were passionate about their topics and very well spoken on their process.
We learned so much from our visit to this remarkable school. The staff and students made us feel welcome and were so incredibly generous with their time and resources. It is with heads full of new ideas and possibilities that we left MacFarlane Park knowing that we had met with outstanding educators who are on a similar journey to be the best that we can possibly be for our students. We are so much stronger as educators for our visit and so grateful for the connections that we have made. We look forward to continued communication with this team and hope to someday soon welcome them to Clearpoint Elementary World School. Thank-you MacFarlane Park Magnet School!
